Bihar is a state of India having rich culture & heritage. Bihar is third largest state in India in terms of populations. A large portion of population (Approx 87%) lives in rural area and bihar is among poorest state of India having lowest GDP per capita .

Stone crafts and Conch shells (Shankh)
Artists use stone crafts and conch shell crafts to create beautiful artistic handicraft pieces on marbles and sea shells. Artisans craft deity’s images, mantra and household articles on marbles and shells. Lahathi
Lahathi bangles (Lacquerware) are a famous craft of Bihar. Artists use Lac for making beautiful items like bangles, boxes, decorative items since early age. Females use these bangles particularly in marriages, Karva Chauth, Teej and Deepawali but it is mostly use by brides during marriage. Lahathi bangles are made of all colors and studded with pearls and small mirrors. Lahathi is Bihar biggest handicraft industry
Madhubani Paintings
Madhubani painting is a folk painting of Mithila region. Madhubani painting is most famous Bihar Handicraft industry. These paintings are popular in Mithila region of Nepal and Bihar where Locals made these paintings on courtyard of the house and on the walls like Rangoli but now it came down to the clothes, walls and paper. These handicrafts are related to goddesses, people’s common life and nature. Artist use natural color made from flowers for these paintings. They use pinnacle or a bamboo pen to make these paintings. People use bright colors, like dark red, green, blue and black.
Khatwa and Sujini Embroidery
Sujini has its roots in Bhusura village of Bihar. It is a form of traditional quilting in which artists use two or three layers of old clothes as canvas. They use cotton or colorful threads for embroidery work on these layers. Khatwa is a kind of applique work in Bihar. Artists use embroidery skillsto create decorative items like tents, canopies, shamianas, etc.

Today Bihar handicraft industry is not unknown and growing but best is yet to come. Bihar handicraft industry has a great potential to provide employment to poor people of Bihar and it could help to grow GDP per capita as well.
